Question by _stellerr.: If I wanted a swimming scholarship in Canada, should I start contacting coaches and initiate contact?
I am entering my gr 12 year in school and I have a few offers from various school for scholarships, but I want to contact other schools, so should I email the coaches asking about the team first, and then ask about possible scholarships? Or should I wait until they mention a scholarship?

Anymore, I would check the team’s website. More than likely, there is an recruiting link that will allow you to submit information to the coach for consideration (e.g., contact info, your best times, etc.) If the coach is interested based on your times, you will be contacted. I would not start the conversation asking for a scholarship, but if it seems to be a good fit based on initial contact, there should be a discussion about what it will take to get you to attend their school–and that is a good time for scholarship discussion. You could, after initial contact, also simply ask what the team’s scholarship situation is–and what it typically takes to receive a scholarship from that particular school.
